Amelia's clever notes

Skinny jeans and guaguas

I’ve officially survived nearly 3 weeks here in Puerto Rico. In some ways, it feels like I’ve been here forever. In other ways, it feels like I haven’t been here long at all. As I mentioned in a previous post, I’m constantly on the go here. Things have calmed down a little bit now that school is going on, but it seems I’m always doing something.

I like to stay busy because it keeps my mind off of home. Usually my mind doesn’t wander too far from the island because my body, mind, and self are constantly and continuously adapting to life here. I thought for this post, I’d write down some of my observations or thoughts on my life here. I’ve realized I’ve done a lot of things for the first time here, and I’ve also learned a lot. Lately, I’ve made a lot of lists so I thought I would make another for this post. Why not? 🙂  Read the rest of this entry »

Squirrels = Lizards

Well, I made it! It wasn’t easy. Honestly, this is one of the hardest things I think I’ve ever done. I survived the plane ride even after I missed my first flight. That was so scary! I wasn’t sure how everything was going to work out, but it did.

At Plaza las Americas (The mall)

When I got to Puerto Rico, I had to ask about my bag that had already arrived quite a few hours ago. Once it was found, I went outside to try and find a taxi. Thankfully, a man driving a cab came to get me and take me to my school. God provided! Upon arriving, several girls greeted me and helped me take my things up to my room. I was touched by their kindness. I tried my best to relax and remain calm, but the stress of the day was too much. I had never flown before, and I felt like I had been running around all day. I cried in my room for a little while, wishing I could somehow see my family and Craig. That same night, I met my resident assistant and she welcomed me and found me some blankets I could use. Mine were all in the boxes I had sent to Puerto Rico before I got there. The woman that had my boxes was not around when I landed in San Juan on Thursday night.

After trying unsuccessfully to relax, I called Craig and my parents. I talked to them for a while and then fell asleep. I was so exhausted. Read the rest of this entry »

Fish tacos and the bicycle not taken

Ok. June is nearly over, and it has gone by quite fast, but it feels like it should be the middle of July already. Maybe it’s because I’m excited for these coming months. I think that might have a lot to do with it.Man of Steel

I’ve been working a lot these past weeks. I haven’t done a whole lot of “summer stuff” yet, but I have been having a lot of fun. My friend Teresa came to dinner with Craig and I to Buffalo Wild Wings the other day, and that was a lot of fun. I always get the same thing when we go, but this time I got a salad. (I usually get a buffalo chicken wrap thing.) My guess is I had a lot of sweets that day and I figured eating a salad would balance things out. It didn’t matter much though, because after that we went and got some yummy ice cream at Cold Stone. Teresa seemed to be greatly enjoying herself. She had never been there before, and she enjoyed eating on the patio with us. Next time I go to Buffalo Wild Wings, I’m guessing I’ll need to try the fish tacos. That’s what Teresa ordered, and she really liked them. Read the rest of this entry »

It sounds like summer to me

Finally after some strange weather, it’s starting to really feel like summer outside! I’m enjoying it as much as I can, but I work at a mall so I’m inside a lot.

I was watching Phineas and Ferb again the other day and I heard this catchy song. It sounds like summer fun! It’s very upbeat. Now I just need to get outside and actually enjoy the wonderful weather God’s blessing us with! Perhaps while I sing this song… 🙂

Spring break? It’s in August

Waking up to see a white world outside on my first day of spring break was a little saddening. No, I wasn’t in Alaska or anything like that. I was at home in the Chippewa Valley. I was hoping my mom and and I would be able to do something fun, but it snowed all day, so we stayed inside. That was day one.

Day two… It was no longer snowing, just very cold. I spent the day inside, but I have high hopes for the next days in this week. I’ll be going out with my mom one of the days, the Mall of America another day, and going to work on the weekend. airplane

I’ve been trying to keep myself busy this week. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve done plenty of napping, watching TV, and ping-pong playing too. I just wanted to keep myself occupied because Craig is gone to Arizona this week to visit his family and his beloved dog, Scottie. I can’t wait for him to return. I feel like he’s been gone for weeks instead of just a few days. I’m happy to know he’s having a wonderful time with them though.  Read the rest of this entry »
